In 2014 alone, more than 200 million personal records were stolen through online data breaches — including records from the University of Maryland (309,000), Indiana University (146,000), and Target (110 million credit card numbers).
Password complexity: All passwords must be a minimum of 8 characters and include at least three of: a number (0–9), a lowercase letter, an uppercase letter, or a non-alphanumeric character (~!@#$%^&*).
Strong passwords: Avoid names, dates, words in any language, computer terms, patterns like “qwerty” or “123321”, or anything associated with SVA (e.g. “sva”, “VASA”, “mysva”).
Protect your password: Never share or reveal your password to anyone — including supervisors. If you suspect your account has been compromised, change it immediately on all systems where you use the same password.
